British Women Luck Out

Back in the 1980s Margaret Thatcher changed immigration law to prevent British women marrying foreign nationals in lieu of a dowry. This legislation is applied to all British women irrespective of whether a dowry is negotiated or not. So when a British woman wants to marry a foreigner she has to provide financial security to ensure their spouse does not abscond after marriage. If and when Britain leaves the EU this will mean that these rules apply to Europeans wishing to marry British women if they intend to live in the UK.
